Cold weather and mascara

Sassy Nation,

I hope everyone is doing well, I got a question emailed to me and it is the perfect topic for me to do a short blog post on.

The question is what do you do when the formula on your mascara gets thicks or seizes up because of cold weather? This is an excellent question and I have been dealing with this recently as it has gotten cold here in the Bay Area.

Before I share with you what I do to solve this issue, I do want to say this, I am assuming your mascara is still good. Remember mascara is only good for 90 days, after that if the formula is thick or seizes up that means you need to replace your mascara.

20180419_173106.jpgWhen it gets cold my mascara tends to either get thick or the formula seizes to the point where the application is difficult. To solve this I remove the mascara wand from the bottle and place the mascara in the microwave for 10 seconds. Then I put the wand back in and take a look at the consistency to make sure it’s what I want. Once in a while, I will have to take the wand out for a second time and put it back in the microwave for another 10 seconds. Usually, the first time is a charm for me.

Now for those of the #SassyNation that don’t have a microwave you can go ahead and20180419_173457.jpg put the entire mascara tube with the want in a cup with hot water, leave it there for a few minutes and you should get the same results.

I do also want to add that there are mascara warmers out there on the market and I have never purchased one. Why, well for two main reasons: 1) To me it seems like a useless gimmick which results in wasting money. You all know, I work in the financial services sector and I am not about the wasting money lifestyle. Money and time are two things you don’t get back after you have used it, therefore I try not to waste it. 2) I don’t have mascara issues every day so I don’t see the point in investing in a mascara warmer.

I hope this tip helps everyone out. Remember if you have questions about makeup, finances or just life and want me to answer them, feel free to send me an email at elementsofsass2015@gmail.com, you can also send them to me via Instagram @thesassygenius, Facebook, or Vero.
